Vintage 2022

The Real Review. 'Top Value Recommended' (exceptional value)

This release marks the 60th anniversary of the Metala Shiraz Cabernet winning the coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy for the 1961 release. A lot has happened to the brand since then, but it has come full circle and recently returned to its origin in Langhorne Creek. Even better, it’s in the hands of the original owners, the Adams family. They claim Metala is home to the oldest family-owned cabernet vineyard in the world. A mix of spiced red and black berries with an inky edge tempts the nose. The palate is warm, ripe and flavoursome. It’s well-made: bold fleshy fruits are framed by tannins. A second glass wouldn’t be refused. And it’s exceptional value.

Bouquet: Sweet plums, ripe blackberry and red current with hints of jubes and red liquorice. Palate: Generous and elegant with sweet, dark fruits, primarily blackberries, and a touch of white pepper. Firm tannins and natural acidity balance fruit sweetness.
